The Western Michigan University Broncos won the 2025 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men’s Hockey Championship on Saturday. In the championship final from St. Louis, Missouri, the Broncos defeated the Boston University Terriers 6-2. On the Broncos squad were two Canadian centres–Matteo Costantini of St. Catharines, Ontario and Tristan Lemyre of Mirabel, Quebec.
On Saturday night, Constantini was a +1 with one shot on net and five faceoff wins. This was the first time ever Western Michigan University won the NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey Championship (otherwise known as the Frozen Four).
Costantini is 22 years old, and a senior. This was his second year with the Broncos after playing two seasons from 2021 to 2023 with the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks. In 40 games this season, Constantini had eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points, with 20 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +10. In the 2020 National Hockey League Entry Draft, he was selected in the fifth round, 131st overall by the Buffalo Sabres.
Lemyre is 24 years old, and a junior. This was his first year with the Broncos after playing two seasons at the University of Denver. In 42 games this season, Lemyre had six goals and eight assists for 14 points with 16 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +2.
In a wild circumstance, Lemyre has now won two consecutive Frozen Four titles with two different schools. Last year in St. Paul, Minnesota, Lemyre was on the University of Denver Pioneers squad that won the title.
